Is this a good deal for a beginning banjo player? My friend is looking into it.

Looks pretty much like the banjo I have. I know NOTHING about banjo's - I got it to dink around on, and it's been fun, but I really wouldn't know a good banjo from a bad one (OK - the only good banjo is a dead banjo...), but it seems pretty decent in terms of build quality to me.

You might want to check out the Deering Goodtime banjo. It's more money though.

Fender makes okay stuff. I have their Mandolin It's pretty good. But the Deering is awesome, tell him to save up for a decent one, if he sucks and wants to sale it he'd be able to reclaim over half the value he puts into it.
