If I was getting paid $25 a night to have people ignore me, I wouldn't want to that gig again either. I wouldn't be blaming it on the gig, though.

so i gotta stand up there for 4 hours to entertain a bunch of people (who arent even listening anyways), get home at 3am in the morning....for like $25 ? LOL no thanks, not fun
Listened to one of your songs online, you are most definetely a "Jam-Band"- very repetitive guitar noodling/ riffing over the same two chords for 15 minutes on the song I listened to. (4) hours of that, not for me, but if you get crowds and they like it, more power to you! But I am curious what do you do for bathroom breaks? We play 4 hour sets all the time. We don't take breaks and sometimes 4 hours isn't enough time. When we are asked to play such short sets as 1-1/2 hours, it is barely time enough to get warmed up and going. For us, a 1-1/2 hour set is a about 6 songs. We usually run about 20 to 25 songs for a 4 hours set. Of course, we really like to play even after 14 years of being together.

Catheters and colostomy bags?
A leg bag just doesn't work with cargo shorts, though...
Not a pretty picture- "Hey Man you are disturbing my GROOVE!! Arghhh what is that smell!"![]()

$25 for 4 hours?
You're at the wrong gig, my friend.
Yep, and no one is forcing you to keep doing it either. I've been playing for almost 40 years and every gig I can ever recall playing was a voluntary commitment on my part.....all of them.
When it gets to be too much like work then you should quit and from the sound of it that's exactly what you need to do OP. With your attitude I wouldn't even want to be in a band with you.
<snip> If you're going to take bar gigs, you might invert your set list - 80% songs people have heard, 20% original stuff. As you advance, then you can change that back (and trust me, your originals are not all hits!).
Man, you need to get out more. I know a lot of cover bands that put on a solid, entertaining 4 hours. Mine included. No charts, no staring at our hands or standing still. I would guess we thrash around as much as you do. Personally, I think most original bands do 45-60 minutes because that's all the material they have. Nothing wrong with that of course, but that could be why original bands average $25/ea. a night and I average closer to $200.
yea, it so not worth it, especially playing at a dive where people arent even listening. Better off just jamming with some friends in a garage band
music scenes are better for original bands and cover bands in different areas. Around my area cover bands play little biker bars and restaurants. This Crowd shot is what we call a good turnout. We are an original band and yes I make a bit more than $25 a show and the only band thats sold out this club to my knowledge is the Deftones btw
What?!? You play songs that you wrote and people actually like them? This goes against almost everything I've read on Talkbass.
