Today, I brought two basses to church, my Pedulla and my SB5000. As most of you who read my posts know, I love Jazz Basses, passive and active. My SB5000 did not gell with me at first, but it is the best active Jazz I have ever owned. I just had to appreciate how the electronics work. Frankly, my V7 works like a charm too now that I took
Marcus Miller’s advice and turned off the midrange unless I need it.

All that said, the bass that sounds the best in anything except really sizzly or grindy and slap happy songs is my Pedulla. After 16 months, my intonation is good, maybe even very good. I don’t need to look, and I hear minor slip ups clearly when they happen. The PJ setup also provides a beefier bottom than the Jazzes. I love that sound for most of what we do. As much as I love Jazzes, my Pentabuzz is my number one and a true workhorse (even if it is as pretty as a show horse) of a bass!:bassist:

I know hat you consider yourself a jazz bass lover but I think you love the RIGHT p/j basses too.

I’ve heard you sing the praises of the Yamaha BB2000 , as well as the MusicMan Caprice many a time.

I consider that Pedulla to be in the same company . Its a winner for you because you favor 5 string basses and well it’s just doesn’t get any better when it comes to boutique fretless.

True.

I have to chime in here. My Pedulla MVP has been my main squeeze since it came to me in '95.

In fact, I fell so hard for it that I got scared about it possibly breaking down, being stolen, and having to gig without it.

So I scraped and saved and bought a second MVP as a backup!

That sounds like a great idea, but I may just get a less expensive fretless if I sell some basses. I forgot to mention that your four string is a real beauty!

hi Doc :)

Same story! I am a Jazz bass guy but...

Once you 're hooked to fretless…

Don' t tell me I didn' t warn you about that! :D

16 months already! Maaaaan, time passes faster and faster the older I get!

I really love to follow your progress! (you don 't get the "stink eye" from the choir anymore?)

Maybe. Maybe not? Of course it' s a different animal (horse? :D) with different pups.

But I think the player is more important.

I play my fretless not like my fretted basses and that makes it sound different (not talking about mwah!!!)

YMMV of course!

greetings

it won't be a pentabuzz, but I just de-fretted my MTD kingston. the poly is drying on the fretboard as I type. I plan to bang out several performances on it to get used to it. pull off my best Pino, with the fretless "stingray" type vibe.

the pedulla is gorgeous. keep thumping it.

Booyah! Well said @Wisebass!

I've only had one chance to play a Pedulla with the Buzz/MVP body style; mid-90's at Bass Northwest (RIP, but now there's The Bass Shop!), & it was such a fantastic instrument! I've wanted a Penta for a couple decades, maybe someday! A single P/U 5-string Rapture came thru a local store recently...but so did an absolutely MINT Jaco. I didn't have a fretless at the time, I did have a 5-string...you can see where this is going!

Very happy for you, Doc! It's gratifying for others too, that you have one you really love

I’m happy for you Doc. Even though I’ve moved on from my Pedulla, it makes me happy to see others enjoying theirs so much.

The thing that is so cool for me is that three years ago, I would never have imagined that my number one work bass would be a fretless PJ. The Pentabuzz is so versatile. It is great for playing music that sounds fretted plus it totally sings as a fretless!:bassist:

There is something mighty special about PJ basses, and Pedulla makes some great ones. Great looking too!
