Bartolini Help

So I am changing the POTS on my Bartolini wired bass. I did some searching and could not find an answer. I have bart jazz pups wired in right now with vol/vol/tone. The bart pickups have red, black wires and a shield. Can someone tell me what wire is hot? Where do I solder the shield? This is how I am wiring it:

What Barts do you have?

Every set of Barts I've ever used have a coax single conductor shielded cable.

Red is hot. Black is ground.

Perfect. Where do I solder the shield to?

Ground. Unless you have good continuity from the shield to black at the pup end. In that case soldering it is optional.

Scratch that.... just solder it to ground anyway

What Barts do you have?

I think they are 59CB's - Jazz. They have a red, black and shield wire.
