Bartolini MK6CBC Alternatives?

My bass has a set of Bart MK6CBC (6 string) pick ups in, but they're not the sound that I need. They are very 'modern' with a lot of mids and bright. It's not the preamp as they're the same when switched to passive as with the pre set flat.

I'm playing predominately Soul and Jazz and need something with more low end and less top that will fit into the existing routes.

Any suggestions? I'm not a brand snob so anything that will fit and sound right I'm happy to consider!

Very strange, that's definitely not how those pickups are normally described. How are they wired? Series or parallel?

I'm just at a loss there, if you find Barts too bright with no bottom I'm just not sure where you could go.

Three things I can think of:

1) Check with Nordstrand maybe for a custom wind.
2) Make sure the coils are in series.
2) The pickups are not the problem.

Just my opinion but if you're playing soul music and jazz an old fashioned passive P-Bass will do the trick for you. And this is from a guy who prefers modern, aggressive sounding basses.

Hi, Davey. The issue you're encountering is and isn't due to the Barts. The pups you have now are Classic Bass- as denoted by the CB in the model #. Ironically, the CB series is the more hi-fi, trebly sounding of their two "series."

The other is the Original Bass series, typically designated by a number or XX at the beginning of the model #. THESE are the Barts most people know and love- thick, deep lows with a push in the lower mids. Unfortunately, Bart doesn't offer the MKs in Original Bass.

BUT! There is good news - Bart's P2 size, which is an industry standard, is so close (like, within a mm all around), that a P2 Original Bass pup- or any P2 sized pup- will pop right in!
