Bartolini P/J Pickup Help

I just installed a set of Bartolini P/J pickups with the 8SU for the P and a 9J-L1 for the J, and the J pickup is way hotter of a signal. I was wondering if this is normal. Using the P pickup, a deep sound can be EQ'd, but if you were to roll the knob the the Jazz pickup, the volume difference is huge. The Jazz pickup is quite a bit lower than the P, and it's a little bit better since I moved it, but it is still way too different. I went through and resoldered, to make sure it wasn't a cold sodler joint, and that made no difference. In passive mode, the P pickup is basically useless. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Also when installing the P pickups, one was labeled N and the other S, I figured N = North and S = South, and put the N on the EA strings and the S on the DG strings, was I correct in doing that? Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
