Thrift Store is the way to go.

Don’t be in a rush, OP...spend 2 or 3 afternoons perusing...might be worth $100 to ya.

If, after a couple of Catches you think it’s Fun! look to the future with...it doesn’t matter which brand...

That’s where i learned about neatsfoot oil. Still use it on all my leather boots and shoes.

I have my softball glove, and it works just fine for bessboll, too.

I have my childhood glove, too...but my softball glove is only 28 years old or so.

Baseball was my first gear obsession. My favorite was a pair of Spaulding NOS cleats that were in a dusty box buried in the local mom and pop sporting goods store. They were made from kangaroo hide which was banned from the US at that time. Thin, light, supple, I loved them and was only caught stealing once.

Here is the Nokona AMG K600. It is made from buckaroo, half steer, half kangaroo.

Feels great, the steer is the inside, the back is 'roo.

After a bit of searching, I stumbled across a slightly broken-in Wilson A2K. It's an 11 3/4 length and fits, literally, "like a glove." Played some catch with another co-worker over lunch. Spring is upon us, folks.

That's a very nice glove. My only stint as a baseball player saw me breaking in one of those beauties, for a flatmate. I ended up wearing it for his team, making up the numbers a few times. Started out catching for him, in training, after work. No mask, no pads, nothing, in the street outside the house we were renting. He'd often be working on some of his curlier pitches — he was a first string pitcher — and I'd be returning fire but, at that point, he had an old catcher's mitt for me. Did the job.

Got a run eventually. Even played on Sydney's premier field, back then, Oriole Park, one time, wearing that very same A2K glove. It was still a little stiff, being brand new, but it never failed me. Infield, outfield, did the trick You're in for some fun.

I have a Mizuno that has been pretty good. Main thing is to treat it with leather conditioner every year. I leave a softball in mine so it will keep its shape.

I stopped playing baseball competitively when I was 16 or 17 years old, but I’ve kept my old mizuno glove in my car ever since, and I’ve run into plenty of opportunity to take it out and throw around. That glove probably cost 75 bucks brand new, but it broke in nice with some shaving cream and a softball and I’ve kept it conditioned ever since. It’s old now- I’ve almost worn a hole at the pad of the pointer finger, but it fits like nothing else ever will and I’m loathe to replace it.

Plus, it says “mojo” on the back, and that makes it damn cool.
