Bass -> 120W combo -> PC interface -> PC

I have an Ibanez SR505 (converted to passive), Behringer BX1200 combo and Toneport GX.

Is it possible to use both the Toneport and the Behringer to record input on my PC in a DAW? Would it improve the tone? The interface alone isn't good enough to make fingerstyle sound good. Picking sounds okay-ish if I add some effects, but that's it.

I remember trying to get both to work a few years ago, but no dice. I never used the XLR connector (direct out), though. Would an XLR to 6.3 mono jack work?

No.
You can’t use both, because your interface only has 1 input. The input on your interface seems to be only for hz-level instruments like a guitar or a bass. XLR DI outs on amps are mic level, so you would need an interface with a microphone preamp.

Plug bass into amp, use the 1/4" out from the BX 'preamp out' to TonePort input. Or you can use XLR Female to 1/4" male and use the DI out to your TonePort as it is post EQ. It is meant to drive either or hi/low.

XLR DIs on bass amps (Genzler, Mesa) often have both both mic or line level outputs. Others use a nominal fixed output level somewhere in the middle or the DI out is controlled by the volume level or a separate line level control to raise the output to line level if needed. There is no standard.

But both - line level and mic-level - are not compatible with a hz level input, at least this will dramatically degrade the signal. Maybe I am wrong and the input of the TonePort accepts different levels, but doesn’t look like it.
