Does anyone have a suggestion for a decent bass combo that will suffice for playing with an entire band and possible small venues? Or should i just look at investing in cabs?

Depend on your funds....if you can afford it, I think that a Schroeder 212 and a nice head such as an Eden, Epifani, etc... would probably be a great sounding, versatile rig, and it would be loud enough for most gigs.
Could you be more specific? What kind of band? How loud do they get? If you can get away with smallish combos, the Yorkvilles are good band for the buck.
