Bass Amp Problems

I was playing my bass one day and it suddenly just started emitting a loud static noise, i turned all my levels down too zero including the master volume and still emitted the noise. I cant use it now because of this and was wondering is it is fixable or not and what is actually wrong with it.

it could be several things, siounds like a short in the line somewhere. probably is fixable, but they look like the types of amps that may cost more to fix than they're worth.

Could be a loose output jack on the bass. Do you get the static if you wiggle the plug in the jack?

pull the lead out from the amp input, if the noise stops, the problem is before the amp.
If it is making a noise like frying bacon and popping corn, then it most likely has blown a foo foo valve or transistor.
If it popped from not being grunty enough, then upgrade for sure.

Static, noise, sounds like a bad cord. Check all the preliminary, obvious things before you call your amp crap..

nah it happens when not plugged in so its deffs fried and i cant be assed trying to fix it because it really isnt worth it, its only a little **** box time to upgrade i think

I stand corrected.. I think the intermittency is after the master gain control.. With all the knobs turned down to zero.. It could very well be a dry solder joint somewhere between the preamp output and Power amp input.. On the other hand, it could be common to the entire amp and power supply related.. Get that amp outta the cabinet and tap around the components with the handle-end of a small screwdriver to see if you can make the noise come-and-go by tapping them with the handle of your screwdriver.. Post back if you're making any headway..
