Bass Amp that can cut through!

im reading alot of different forums etc, and on a gig is it true the amp gets wired through the Pa as well to make it a better sound! and also as long as the sound quality is good, u can cut through with like a 100w amp? sorry for being annoying lol its just amps are expensive and im a student, so i want to make sure i purchase the right thing! And you guys know alot more than me :D

On the gig you use a device called a "DI", it's a little box that splits your signal from your bass so that one cable goes to your amp and the other cable goes to the PA mixer. Some amp heads have a DI built in, so then you'd run a cable from that output to the PA mixer. Yes, that's one good way of getting a lot more amplification "for free". In that case, if the PA is good, your onstage amp can be just a personal monitor if you want. Of course if the band is super loud onstage, with massive guitar amps and a pounding drummer, then you'll want a bigger amp to hear yourself anyway.
