Bass Assassination Attempt!

If that happened to me, and I knew who did it, they would be spitting out teeth, and pissing blood from their hospital beds.

There is NO excuse for that kind of behaviour.

Hope you get the situation resolved to your satisfaction.

Cheers!

Very very true, Gravel Road Cop. I can say right now that it wasn't a "harmless joke" to begin with. They were clearly destroying it to get back at me for some insane reason or another. I will tell you though that I have an extremely calm disposition and I am very patient, but if they fight me on this one, heads are going to roll.

"Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my bass. Prepare to die."

Maybe they could've been better parents, but a lawyer could cause all kinds of grief.
I should hope so... that's rather the point. These 'people' caused deliberate material damage. They have thus far gotten completely away with it. Their parents, either by example or parental negligence, have served only to enable the present situation. This should not be allowed to stand. I understand your kind-hearted impulse to be reasonable, but if the perpetrators were reasonable people this discussion would not be taking place. IMHO, of course.

the thoughts of someone trying to do that to my ASAT bass makes me insane. It would take every ounce of willpower to act rational.

here in Texas Criminal mischief of damages between $500 - $1500 is a Class A misdemeanor. with up to a year in jail. That's SERIOUS business

Look it up by your state and see, showing how serious the nature of a crime is can sometimes help your case.

I would go to the police now. If its spring break and you have to wait a week, if you have to talk to the police the sooner the better.

Very True, Super Fine. I am actually considering that. In Indiana, minor damage done by Criminal Mischief is usually considered a Class B and has up to a $1,000 fine. If the damage is $250-$2,500 which it is, it is a Class A and can be up to a $,5000 fine with up to a 180 day serving time.

why not get some revenge on them... Heres a great idea if they have cars. go get a big roll of shrink wrap... do one layer on the car and get a can of super 77 spray glue spray the car down and do another layer keep spraying and wrapping till you are out of spray glue and shrink wrap. no real damage to the car but the car has a shell stuck to it and the owner is left with figuring out how to remove the shell. but if anyone ever did the tying my cable in knots to knock over my bass or something like that to me i know id probably end up in jail because of what id end up doing to them.

You see I can't even make an example because they don't even care if our drumkit is destroyed. It's owned by the school and not them. I stayed very calm, even keeled, and even laughed a bit (sarcastically), but I can say for sure that If I would have just let loose, it would most likely be them filing the police report.

They really don't get it either. A bass (especially one you become attached to) is more than a tool or toy. It becomes your means of expression and a partner. One can't just pick up another one at Wal-mart. Each instrument (especially when talking vintage), is one of a kind and unique from every other. Once it's gone, it's gone. Sure the instrument is still in playable condition, but what if it wasn't it could have easily hit the tile with the headstock and broke it off or bent the neck beyond repair.

whatever you do noone is gonna tell you youre wrong for f*cking them up or their stuff, but theres a saying in israel that my dad used to tell me all the time, sometimes its better to be smart then right, do the smart thing dont worry about hassling them with lawyers or cops, they hassled you by damaging your stuff, be smart go to the school with the parents and if the school isnt responsive bring in a lawyer you'll get what youre looking for, belive me taking the physical route is to easy and though ive never served time for exacting revenge on someone i did have to go to 9 months of anger managment.....not fun

why not get some revenge on them...

Much as I love your idea, I can imagine trying to explain to the cop that caught you, spray can in hand, how you weren't doing any real damage... :)

I gravitate toward thoughts of revenge myself--my first thought when I read the OP was 'Irish six-pack'--but much as images of those MFs spitting teeth sends me to my happy place, I strongly advise against it. Keep the law on your side.

Indeed. I am going to be making some parent calls, a call to the band director, and a call to the police. I am going to also see if I can get some others from the class that will definitely point out the 3 responsible and give their parents an ultimatum. A complete compensation of damages and loss of market worth, or a quick call to the attorney and a police report filed under Criminal Mischief.

I am not one to be greedy or bloodthirsty, but the fact remains that they deliberately set the whole thing up knowing that it would cause the instrument to fall and possibly inflict serious damage. The incapability to comprehend the cost of these things is no excuse. If we put all 3 in the same room I am sure they will rat each other out. We were unable to talk to the 3rd one while the other two were present. He conveniently had a "doctor's appointment" and the other two cast blame on him. Upon confronting him later in the day he completely denied any involvement. I can definitely say that a minimum of 6 people, not including myself, saw them tying the other end of the cable into a large wad, and all 30 including the Director can confirm that they were the only people to be in that area during the whole period. Not to mention I have a mile long list of previous fights, damages, and accounts of them tampering with my equipment.

and thats why you dont get caught. you have to plan out excape routes. wear gloves and do it fast.

These people should not only be forced to make restitution, they should also be booted out of band. Any self respecting band director should not condone such behavior nor the intentional damage to instruments. If these bozos were to continue their musical education at a higher level, this sort of thing would never tolerated so they might as well learn that now.

Edited: Of course the above is a fantasy. I was terrorized in high school and nobody ever did a darned thing about it even though much of it happened right in front of teachers.

Good Luck,
S

First thing is try keep a calm head.
.
Not trying to tell you to take this sitting down, but be aware you have to finish out school with these d*cks and they're obviously ating as a pack. Just be measured and be careful.
