Bass build, at slow pace.

As my other projects are now complete, i can somewhat focus on this one again. But i don't think i'll be building it anytime soon, as i must deal with personal issues first, and allow myself to be in a perfect mindstate for this build. Stay tuned for more, as it progresses, i'll be sure to update this forum. Thanks for your patience if you're still following

Hey guys, I hope the holidays have been good for all of you. Just a little update on this, i've finally found the tuners i need for this bass. Invalid Link Removed Pretty stoked, keeping this project under 300$ and it'll be well worth it. I guess that's it, hopefully i can kick start this project back up again and start building for real.

So i'm kick starting this slowly again, but i may have found some suitable swamp ash for relitavely inexpensive. Still looking into options so far carvin guitars is one, and the humble suggestions by mansjasont. I've figured out what paint i'll be using as well for the burst effect. Still no idea for the design i have but all in due time. Relatively inexpensive build so i'm excited to start it for good.

James at The Woodshed is a friend of mine and has helped me out a lot. Just give them a call and see if they will send you the wood. It will be a lot cheaper than warmoth.

These guys seem to have good prices on wood. I don't know what shipping to Canada is like.

I've checked them out, and 50$ for shipping. 100$ isn't so bad, but i'm not credit card holder. And still trying to find something below that price. I think i have an idea: since my dad is in ontario, many posts back there's a source for wood there that i could possibly afford and acquire. But thank you :D

Been busy with other projects: restoring my epiphone thunderbird, planning a home recording with my guitarist, and a bunch else.) but for wood, i'm most likely going to use plywood laminated (since it'll be a blue burst, the darkest blue will cover up the layers) and i've found a squier classic vibe style bridge for this bass. Most likely during the summer i'll be getting somewhere with this.

AFter having finished my home built grabber inspired bass, & having my thunderbird in the drying process for another 2 weeks, i've been able to focus on this build so i can finally do something about it instead of just talking/posting and not having anything in the end. I've glued the nut, filled up some dings on the headstock, drill the tuner holes a bit bigger. Now i'll file down the string spacing in the nut but i have to find my half pencil to draw the fretline so i don't go over it. Upcoming weeks i'll be looking for paint, possibly some thick sturdy plywood (will also be used for a thinline guitar build for one of my collegues) and go from there.

It's been dead for a long time, i've talked more than doing, but it's still a slow build.

So this build could have seen better days if i had money to fund it, but the good news is that i'll be starting work for the body as soon as the snow here melts and is warmer outside to work. I've decided to ditch the swamp ash as i cannot find good deal, nor do i have the cahs to spend on that wood. Since i still have remaining wood from my grabber inspired build, i'll have enough for this bass + two other bodies (thunderbird & a ripper body). In the next few weeks, if all goes well, i do plan on ordering the fat clover tuners and the bridge for this build. Later on, paint will be applied afterwards and then everything else will fall in place.

Yeah so these specs are relative but since i've ditched the idea of swamp ash for the body and i'm using fat clover open gear tuners, the final specs for the build are:

Home depot maple wood thickness of 1.5", Chrome Metric jazz/precision bass bridge, Flush mount tube jack output, TV jones Thundertron pickup NE filtertron mount. maple or mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, Blue burst with supernova design (matching headstock with stars).

Build's on the way.

I'm putting this project back on the burner for the following reasons:

-Waiting for money to flow in to be able to continue with this.
-I'm going to restart w/a completely new body (swamp ash blank as i wanted at first & making the body a bit bigger/longer)

With the body i was planning to use for this one, i'll make a guitar out of it or use it as a test piece for staining & such.

I've decided to make a guitar with the original body blank. It'll be painted black & orange, 2 pickups (single coil & humbucker), 2 way mini switch for the humbucker to either have it in single coil or full on. Wrap around bridge, telecaster neck - gonna try & find a used one for dirt cheap. 3 way switch & tone control with bleed mod.

My own ghost thread.

I've got the tuning keys & have plugged the old & drilled the new holes for them (since the base of each key is large, the original holes would have them overlap). Go to filling dings & sanding everything down before i can shoot a few coats of primer before painting it a dark shade of blue. Since the body is now going to be painted with the night sky & a different shape as well to accommodate the look, i'll be finishing this build in 2017 along with a semi acoustic bass build. Pictures to come definitely.
