Double Bass bass cabinet placement

My solution has been to use two small cabs with 8" drivers. I pole mount a 1x8 above a 2x8; with the1x8 near ear level, I can hear my intonation clearly, while the floor-coupled 2x8 provides the beef. A variable high--pass filter, and thoughtful placement of my cabs relative to stage walls, enables me to tweak my sound to suit the venue. Best of all, the two cabs have a combined weight of only 30 pounds. Too bad Mike Arnopol is no longer making the Crazy8 and Crazy88 composite cabs; these are the best cabs in my arsenal.

Good luck!

That's interesting, are these all separate cabs? I'd love to see a pic of that arrangement and how they're mounted.

When I had the cabinets built, I asked to have pole sockets installed in the bottom of the 1x8, and on the top of the 2x8 when laying horizontally; the 20-pound 2x8 keeps the 11-pound 1x8 from falling over. Sorry, I've never taken photos.

I use a QSC CP8 powered speaker, placed as a wedged monitor behind me. It has a "floor monitor" option in its DSP presets, which compensates for the floor coupling.
I use a CP8 also, sometimes on the floor in monitor mode, sometimes on a stand. With the Stat B pickup I often go straight in from the Stat Pre, plenty of volume, no EQ needed except for the HPF on the CP8 sometimes.
