Get a 10' and a 20' with one right-angle end on each. The 10' comes in handy for practice and small spaces. I always get something in the cheaper price range as long as it has reinforced ends.

I recommend a custom cable made by Devin Cline at D-Cline Designs. They are pricey but the best cable I've ever used.

Get good quality cables. Good quality is not expensive: Moagmi has some good cables for good prices. Avoid the five buck specials with cheap plugs, the plugs fail over time, and if you drop them on concrete, they can fail.

Audio cable, instrument cable, speaker cable, everything. Of course, he can't differentiate between two different guitar parts in a song, soo...there you go.

He can’t have been playing very long then to still have hearing like that!

Whenever I read that someone has these superhuman detection skills I think back to an audio magazine article I read years ago. Apparently they had room full of audiophiles rating the performance of what they thought were different high end speaker cables. The contenders as best I recall included notable candidates like a $50 a foot speaker cable, coat hanger wire with electrical tape on it and plain old zip cord. As it turns out the zip cord and coat hangers got as many "excellent tonal definition, superb clarity, and exceptional dynamic range" votes as the expensive cables. For the record, I'm not recommending coat hangers or zip cord in place of good quality speaker cables...I'm also not recommending the $50 a foot stuff either.

Don't get me wrong, I believe in using well constructed cables. To me that means a pair of well-built jacks that are serviceable and soldered properly to decent cable.

I actually take very good care of my stuff and this cable will last me a long time. I could see it not being for everyone though. The Cable is the best I've ever used. Very lightweight and doesn't tangle up at all. It's a very durable cable.

Indeed. But we may play in different worlds. I may have a crowded stage with 10+ people on it who aren't paying attention to my cables:

Or a tight stage with not enough room for our members and/or a drummer, soundguy, whoever...who steps all over cables on stage... The problem here isn't me at all.

Lots of factors involved in playing that are out of our control. They're definitely pretty turned cable ends...and they'd be great for me at home.

Make sure it's a Fender rumble 100 cable .. or it wont work .. ...........naaah just kidding. I use a microphone cable myself, it's thinner and more pliable than the thicker instrument cables.

While I admire fine craftsmanship, my gigging environment requirements are best met by product designs that emphasize durability/resilience over aesthetics. That said, those are truly cool looking cables!

This. For local gigging when you're carrying your own gear in your own car and have control over how you're packing it, how you're moving it, etc. it's way easier to have stuff like this. But, past this, things can get ugly. I'm currently shopping for a 'road bass' because I don't want to trust my most favorite instrument to the type of conditions that happen, it's similar to the move from gig bag to hard case. Also, luckily I'm not fussy about my cabs, because they're banged about while packing an extended van cargo area with piles of other gear. Just no way to safeguard that stuff...literally without extra big heavy bulky road cases.

One errant workboot on a handmade 1/4" connector and you're done.

Not sure if this was mentioned.. but I get all my guitar cables and XLR mic cables from Redco.com. I use the Redco branded cable which is as good as the Mogami etc. and you can make any cable length you want and with any ends. So far in gihgging my right angle Mogami silver cables failed twice and Redco never. Website says two week wait but I usually receive them in five days. (No affiliation with Redco.)
