Bass cases for Fender Starcaster and Coronado

I finally got a hard case for this beast of a bass. As it turns out, Fender reissued the Starcaster AND the Coronado however no hard cases are available for them. Only gig bags. Which never fit proper and make for very little protection.

After some searching and reading through some of the posts i found that a few cases will fit both of these guitars.

The Epiphone Jack Casady case is one of them for about 180.00 +tax CAD.

The Guild Starfire bass case also fits for around 250.00. Barf. (nice case though)

And the Lakland Skyline hollow body case coming in around 200.00

Yorkville however make a Jack Casady case for 130.00 which was available through Long & McQuades. Which means no charge for shipping! Got it in two days and look how well it fits! It's not PERFECT, but it's snug and not too tight. (and it doesn't say Epiphone on it!)

If you are looking for a case for your Starcaster or Coronado i highly suggest this one here, the Yorkville YBC-4HJC Jack Casady bass case. Especially if you live in Canada!

Rondo has one for about $60 US that fits their Douglas SPB1100. It also fits the Starcaster and the Casady. I have all three, just use a little bubble wrap in a few places

It's crazy that Fender doesn't make a hard shell case for those instruments! They've done that a LOT over the years with various bass models. The Fender MB-5 had a specific hard shell case molded just for it, but also had a gig bag that was a tad shorter (smaller body on that bass). Fender cared enough to do that for a model (the MB-5) that was only in production for 2.5 years, but not for these? Nuts!

I am picking up my new Starcaster in Natural this week here in Spain. Impossible to find a case. One company has a Used flight case made for the Starcaster but it weighs in at around 15 ILBs waaay too heavy! So I will try your link and see if they ship to Europe. Sadly when customs charges are added on top of buying price and shipping we pay at least another 30% more! But great link thanks!

Fender wouldn't make them anyway, so knowing that 90% of cases are made in China it would be a small thing to add $100 to the price of the guitar and get a case thrown in! Hagstrom do it and their semi bass is much cheaper here than Fender. So in part your right! Fender should supply a case. Good Luck!

I can confirm that the Starcaster fits perfectly in the gig bag, and as a surprise bonus, my Gretsch G5120 guitar also fits quite nicely.

Thanks. First a warning. The Starcaster is bloomin heavy for a semi hollow. It really should have wheels built in. I have orsered a flight case with wheels for it that should be here in a week! Gig Bags by their very nature are a no go at airports for any hollow type of bass etc etc!

Got a GC gift card for Christmas and wanted the Fender Metro Semi-hollow Bass Bag, but they didn't have it then.

Patiently waited until GC put it on their website with a future expected-by date. As that first date got closer, I noticed it changed to a later date. Then, the bag seemed to disappear again. Next time it reappeared, again with a future expected-by date, I went ahead and pre-ordered it with the gift card. A few weeks later, after the latest expected-by date had passed, and with no change in that date, my order was unceremoniously cancelled! I assumed that the gift card was refunded to my account.

PO'd at the cancellation, I pre-ordered the Metro bag from another online retailer, also with a different expected-by date. When that date arrived I got a phone call(!!!) apologizing for the delay and explaining that the manufacturer was having problems, and asking if I wanted to cancel or wait. I chose to wait, my faith in humanity renewed.

Meanwhile, I get more GC gift cards and begin considering a hard case instead. So, I go to buy the Epiphone Jack Casady Bass Case online, thanks to this thread and a few others like it. But, at checkout, there is no trace of my refunded gift card from the cancelled order! Grrrrr! I looked around but couldn't find the physical card anywhere!! GGGRRRR!! So, I called GC to say WTH!?! But, the voice on the phone was so young, polite and willing to help that I didn't get to go full GOF on them. They took care of the situation quickly, with profuse apologies. And when they couldn't figure out how to credit my account with the half dollar change from a gift card they gave me a special deal on a multi-pick assortment. Sure, OK.

I soon got another call about a further delay from the other retailer! Did I want to cancel, or continue waiting. With much gratitude for their consideration, I cancelled this time. I now see that they don't even have an expected-by date any more, just "arriving soon".

TLDR: My Epi JC case just arrived and fits my Fender Vintage Modified Starcaster Bass like a glove!

I really VERY much appreciate the information about the Yorkville case. First Canadian dealer I tried doesn't ship to the US, but LA Music (L.A. Music - Canada's Favourite Music Store! | Buy Musical Instruments Online with Confidence - L.A. Music Canada) does and quickly filled the order. The case is super quality, very tough construction, nothing like the cheap plywood cases I read reviews about, and it is heavy as befits the quality of the materials with latches that align perfectly, a flapped bin in the center. (ABS cases seem to only have 'wells' without cover flaps.) LA Music stocks the other Yorkville cases, for example a "teardrop" bass case which is probably perfect for a Gretsch Junior Jet II, so you don't have to get an enormous rectangle case for that. The Fender Starcaster bass is an odd bloopy shape and sits slightly askew in the Yorkville Jack Casady case, putting slight pressure on the E tuning key... not really a problem. Cheers, ~Andrew

I will be bringing it to my guitar tech to see if he can find why the neck pickup buzzes when tapped on - the neck pickup makes no such noise. He speculated it's a loose wire within. The whole pup appears to have been dipped in wax because even the Phillips slots on its underside screw heads were filled with wax. The pickups are output MONSTERS: Very powerful, and a vast tone range to the instrument too!

I mean, the bridge pickup makes no buzz or rattle when tapped with a finger tip. The noise from the neck one does transfer to the amp even though the pickups look like humbuckers.

As for buzz, my tech explained that with any device with 4 screws at corners working against springs beneath, there may be 3 screws under tension and one less so, so it buzzes. He said it's tricky getting uniform tension on all 4 to avoid one less-tensioned corner buzzing.

Also a dumb/cheap tip is to use a cello gig bag. Some will even fit a 3/4 cello.
The height stretches into the extra width needed for the bass body. And cellists don’t get hyped about gig bags so they cost about half that of a bass guitar gig bag. That’s what I used when I had a Gretsch and it is what I use for my ABGs because those cases are way to big.
