Bass Central Appreciation Thread

I am very pleased with Bass Central. My relationship with BC started with Gard a couple of years ago. Pretty great first experience. I recently purchased another Redwood Burl Spector, an SWR amp, and Aguilar cabinet. Beaver, Grasshopper, and Perry have been great. I had a challenge recently and these guys really took great care of me. Thanks to all of you guys there at Bass Central. I'll be back.

Just thought I'd make a post after my first experience with Bass Central. I took my SX bass in there to get a professional opinion on a setup since the bass needed a slight tweaking after my version of a setup. I just moved to Orlando for school so I wasn't familiar with the local music stores besides Sam Ash and Guitar Center who I won't let touch anything I own. I read some threads here on TB about Bass Central so I decided to look it up and was delighted to see that they were only a few miles from me!

I sent them an e-mail to see if they would work on my bass and got an e-mail from Grasshopper asking me to bring it in so he could take a look at it. So I did that, and it was my first trip to BC. I walked in there and was amazed at the amount of high end gear they have there! As soon as I saw all that I expected to be laughed at for bringing in a $100 SX bass. I was wrong though, Grasshopper took my bass and looked over it and quickly diagnosed the little tweaks that it needed which were minor and told me he could take care of it no problem. He was very helpful and was also educating me in the process too. I dropped my bass back off a couple days later when he had time to work on it and picked it up today. Wow, it plays great! Not once in the experience did I feel like I was wasting their time bringing a cheap bass in there like I expected to get in a store with so many multi thousand $ basses. They're very profesisonal there and reasonably priced too. I only paid $25 for a complete setup. Neck straightened, action lowered, frets polished, and fingerboard oiled. It's awesome that they understand the concept of poor college students with no money but still love to play with what they have. I'm definately going back there for everything I need. Even my local store back home where I know the owners really well make me feel like an annoyance when I bring in something I didn't buy from them to work on. I expected a lot worse here but got none of it.

The only employee I dealt with really at BC was Grasshopper, but the other guys that were there were really cool to me too and let me play around with some high $ gear while I waited.

Overall a very positive experience with them, very nice people over there! Sorry for the long post, but this was my first really good experience at a music store since I started playing so I thought it was worth mentioning.

My experience with BC:

I e-mailed BC about a bass and thought I got a blow off e-mail in reply.

So I ended up chatting with Beaver directly. He was apologetic and offered me his "best price" on any future purchase. Good tactic.

About 3 months later I went to him to price a new Pedulla PentaBuzz.

I was a little annoyed to learn his "best price" was roughly the same (within $50) as the price I'd gotten from another bass shop.

But he remembered me and the incident and apologized again so I ordered the Bass from him. They said 8-10 weeks for delivery.

A package arrived at my house from BC at around 7 weeks. I was pretty stoked.

But I opened the box to find not my Pedulla - but a $1200 Lakeland. They sent me the wrong bass. That means they sent my new Pedulla to someone else.

The guy I spoke with at BC about it didn't seem to think it was a big deal (maybe it happens often - who knows) until I explained how someone just got a bass worth 3 times what they spent and if that person isn't the "honest" type they might feel tempted to run off with it.

Anyway BC tracked them down and got my bass sent to me within a week. Of course - I was then olibgated to get the wrong bass I received shipped to the correct person. That was last summer.

Despite this - I just placed an order with BC for another Pedulla.

I do think Bass Central probably does too much business for their own good. They all seemed spread too thin - too busy and make more mistakes than they should. But they seem to try to correct issues when things go wrong.

It's not the mistakes - it's how people deal with them. And for all the mistakes, BC rated pretty fair. Not great. But fair enough to earn another shot with my business. Which is much more than I can say for most of my retail experiences these days (I haven't been inside a guitar center in over 2 years.)
;)

Made my first trip today. I really only went to get a set of strings and look around. I got to talking to beaver, another one of the guys, sorry his name escapes me, but they didn't have the strings I was looking for, they were on order, but the cool guys that they are, they gave me another set of strings just for coming all the way over there. Awesome experience, will definetly be back. Hopefully it will be to pull of a deal for a lakeland or sadowksy.

I may as well add in here. Last month I bought my Aguilar setup from Perry at Bass Central. I got a great deal, and great customer service through the entire transaction. I will definately be buying from them again. Next time I am in Florida I will have to stop by and check out the store.
