Bass Distortion pedals you'd recommend?

Let me start by saying I'm just starting to accept I dig dirt pedals. I have come to a decent understanding of Overdrive & Fuzz pedals. But distortion is not so clear. Rat vs Tube Screamer vs Mosfett vs Silicone vs etc and so on.

My dirt pedal exposure isn't vast. But I've gone through a few MojoMojo too dark. Rodenberg LDB Deluxe kind of cool but too big. Hamstead Subspace Killer pedal so many options but mine is noisy as heck. Scorpion killer not going anywhere but it's more Overdrive/EQ pedal.

So, I'm looking to replace the Subspace or at least discover potential options. 1st thought was MDB 3 like the Subspace tons of options. Do wish it was smaller. Maybe Rattler Bass? What's your favorite type of distortion and pedals. I'd prefer top jacks but I won't rule side Jack's out. Board ergonomics does matter.

Boss BB-1X. It has a dry/wet blend, and you still get the lows.

Damnation audio MBD-2 or MDB-3 is killer. Also the mountianking behemoth 2 is awesome. Way huge Pork Loin, Fairfield Circuitry Barbershop and BJFE Blueberry are solid Choices that are standards in bass distortion.

Another big thumbs up for Damnation Audio. Their MBD pedals kicked every other dirt/drive pedals off my board. Just my $0.02 as usual.

The line between distortion and overdrive has never been blurrier, IMHO. Something like the Scorpion is labelled "overdrive" but if you put the gain knob up past 1-2 o'clock, you are definitely into full-on distortion territory. The other one that immediately springs to mind when thinking of this is the Fuzzrocious Li'l Fella; it goes from light OD all the way to nearly-fuzz.

Agree that the MBD seems to be a great shout; it seems to be wildly versatile, and actually gettable! LOL.

My vote goes to anything ratbased or the often overlooked Curmudgeon from damnation audio. Less versatile than their MBD, but its two core sounds are so good.

Your quest for the perfect dirt can be a long, arduous and expensive one, not for the impatient or faint of heart. My best suggestion is the Source Audio Aftershock sounds fantastic to begin with but offers the tools to create pretty much anything your heart or ears desire. It offers engines of all the popular and classic types with a toolbox for shaping the sound to your needs. There are hundreds of sounds already created in the Neuro Cloud by other users for free.

That said I still have way too many other dirt pedals (30+) and second on the Fuzzrocious l'il fella as being a great choice.

I have a Lunar, computer diving I do all day doing so for a pedal just isn't my thing. SA makes sol
id gear. The LiL Fella keeps popping up on TB.

I second this. Curmudgeon might be my favorite dirt pedal. It's low gain and high gain sounds are amazing and quite unique sounding. Also, speaking of ratbased, Damnation Parallel Drive is a heavy hitter.

Really, anything from Damnation Audio, though. For me, they rule the bass dirt world.

The Sushi Lab Rat and the Drunk Beaver Cold Was Bat are my favorites. I think everyone needs a Rat type. I love the Rat but I never had great luck on bass until some good bass friendly clones came about.

@Killing Floor agreed on the Rat, I have several versions in the closet for skinny string needs but I have been able to finally create the long dreamed of version with the Aftershock. I owned both versions of the Juggernaut and neither quite was the trick.

My main bass dirt is an old Source Audio Multiwave Bass Distortion. I use it for basic distortion and octave fuzz. Super easy to dial in and it rips. Prior to the Multiwave, I used a DOD Carcosa. It has great range and I prefer it to op-amp/hard clip distortions like RAT and DOD 250 based pedals. I've never had success with Big Muff based pedals.
