bass distortion... whatcha got?

I use the BFX-708. I just recently purchased digitech squeeze, overdrive and multi-chorus pedals with a dod vibrato pedal. Still trying to figure out how to hook them up. If anyone can help me, do you use the amp or the mixer output to the input of the other pedal?

I am thinking about ordering the digitech death metal pedal and try it out............

My main source of dirt is a Fulltone Bass drive I recently bought. Great pedal once you get the feel for it. I generally use the Vintage mode with the Mosfet setting, Vol at 10 o'clock, Tone at 3 o'clock, Overdrive at 8 o'clock and the boost at 2 o'clock. Lets me switch from my clean sound to a slightly dirty to full out overdrive quickly.

I also use the dreaded ODB-3 with good results. It is not my main pedal but I like it for some stuff.

#1 on my OD GAS list is an EBS valve drive.

it's all subjective, and i love my rat to bits, but mine has no bottom end really to speak of, and sometimes that's ok (when guitards shut up), but sometimes it's soul destroyingly bad (the other 99.9% of the time) which is why i'm currently debating between a bass big muff and a ggg tuned muff. at least the ggg will solve the issue of what to do with myself on a cold winter night in this horrific excuse for a conurbation... i may just plump for a ruetz mod on the rat as well... eek! so many decisions! darn this GAS...

Guitar distortions are fine, and you don't have to keep the gain on your amp low to use them. But you shouldn't run it much louder than the regular volume. Also, guitar distortions usually take out all the bass response, so they work better with a blend of clean and distorted signals.

One thing I look for in a distortion is Intermod subharmonics. The Dawg and MMuff and MD-2 exhibit this well. The most Extreme I've heard yet is the Boss ML-2 'Metalcore' - Egads.

I also put Aphex Big Bottom (Bass Xciter) in the chain to enhance these double-stop Subs.

I was never a fan of the ODB-3 either, but I'll defend the right of anyone to use it. I just don't like its tone. It's a little too plain vanilla for me and doesn't have an edge IMHO. I'm not hostile toward...I just don't like it.

i use an ibanez pd7. i can get alot of sounds out of it, but im into fuzz right now. it has low and high eq settings, a drive control, a volume control, in addition to an attack switch and a switch that goes between clean/od/distortion. theres all sorts of sounds available with it, especially once you start using your basses onboard eq and tone control. the possibilities are HUGE, but im in the market for a bass big muff next paycheck

I am surprised at the variety of pedals people have, its gonna take forever to find a good pedal lol, Joe, as I said in the original post, I have a Diesel Dawg and am really unimpressed with it,

also a side note, before settling for the head I have now (the GK 1001RB) I was originally going to get the GK 2001RB head because of the built in distortion channel, I was impressed with its sound on the tool album "10,000 days" and wanted one since I heard it, the head is in great demand and always in back order, so I settled with the GK 1001rb which is an amazing head on its own, just lacks the distortion channel, they finally got my GK 2001rb in stock, so I went to try it out, the distortion channel is BEAUTIFUL, so rich and thick and distinguishable, everything I wanted but of course now that I'm back in school I can't afford the upgrade, now I've heard the argument that the 2001rb distortion channel is basicly the diesel dawg, but I can't get anywhere near the sound on my diesel dawg as I can on the 2001rb, is my diesel dawg fubar'd? how can I tell its not working properly? I get alot of noise as soon as I turn the pedal on which never really happened before

Boss ODB-3 (might make it back on as a clean boost)

I don't recommend any of these unless you are willing to set aside some moneys you don't intend to get back or can try them out first. I just tried a Tube Zipper and now I have great curiosity about the EHX Tube pedals.

When you take a poll of TBers in order to buy a piece of gear, you're going to get so many answers that it will, indeed, confuse you. Not only that, but you're going to hate a good 50% of the suggestions. There is only one way to decide on a piece of gear...try it for yourself.

I hear ya J--it's definitely not a "refined" sounding pedal. But I think it actually speaks in a live mix rather well. I'd prolly never use it in the studio, but who knows? We've all heard it on records, that's for sure.
I just used the term hostility because I have seen other threads in the past where people sound shocked that some pro's board as the lowly ODB-3 in it, when in reality, it's a pretty ubiquitous bass stomp.
