Bass fly rig v2: trying to protect my settings

I have a bass fly rig which i very much rate. Sound quality is good and it pretty much exactly replicates the functions of my main board. However, the knobs a very sensitive and it is very easy to knock your settings when it is rattling around in my gig bag which can lead to some sticky moments, especially if you're having a rushed setup.

So, I made a cover to protect my settings. I had 9mm plywood at home, so that is what I used. I'll use a couple of rubber bands to keep it place while the flyrig is in my back pack.

I own a DP-3X and do what some kind TBer recommended: Find your settings, pull the knobs off and put them back on with the marker at 12 o clock. Tadaaa. Works perfect for my needs.

Normally I'd use these or these if I don't want my knobs to move, but I'm not sure they'll fit the fly rig. Failing that, I'd just mark them as @SteveFromBerlin suggests.

Another option that might be worth considering, if you don't mind an unconventional resource, is to find someone who can make things out of Kydex. I've got a friend who is big into hunting and outdoorsy stuff, and has some custom holsters and knife sheaths he had made out of it. That's not my thing, but the versatility of the material gave me an idea. I got in touch with his "Kydex guy," and had a pleasant chat; Turns out Kydex can indeed be used for a lot more than the products people typically associate with it.

I've got a little all-in-one PA system I use for simple "DJ" type setups, with a small mixer that has protective rails on the sides. Those rails only do so much of course, but I thought they would make for convenient anchor points for something to completely enclose the knobs. I showed the mixer to the Kydex guy, who took a few measurements, then made a very clever little clip-on cover for it made from some sturdy, 1/8" thick Kydex. The low-profile nuts and screws used for "wearable" items stay well clear of the knobs, and the cover stays clipped on very firmly. No more worries about knobs getting tweaked (or worse, knocked off) during transport, load-in/out, etc:

Even without such rails on your Fly Rig, the material can be custom-shaped into just about anything. It may be possible to come up with a clip-on cover, or slide-on "sleeve" option, to completely protect the front of the rig. If you can get in touch with a skilled Kydex crafter in your area, it might be worth seeing what they can do.

A Sharpie pen of your color choice to mark the spots. Want to change or remove the marks to sell the pedal, a wipe of rubbing alcohol and it is gone.

If you are always in low light, a drop of reflective paint used for firearms.

You may consider a layer of felt or something between the plywood and the painted metal to reduce abrasion. Self-adhesive felt can be found in many craft stores.

Pretty good idea aliwobble! I have a similar problem with the knob positions on my basses. I like to set my EQ differently for each one and keep them that way.

What I did, was; I used some of those lightly adhesive, round, side-fret markers I bought for one of my basses that has very dark side-fret markers as a way to mark the knobs positions. This would be a cheap, easy, semi-permanent (and safe) way to mark settings for almost everything:

Edit: the round stickers come in different sizes and colors, so you don't exactly need big round ones making your pretty bass ugly

My personal favorite way to keep knobs from moving around so much is to remove the knob and put a soft o-ring around the pot shaft. If that doesn’t work, a piece of blue painter’s tape with a white marker to mark where the knob should be.

The pots don't sit up very high. The idea is to protect them while the pedal is being moved. I'll take the cover off while playing so I can push the foot switches.

Yes, I tried that. Problem was my middle aged eyes couldn't see a damn thing in the 2 minutes of set up time we had available on the pitch black stage with the punters out the front.
