Bass Foundation Course - Joe Hubbard

Very well structured, as you will get weekly lessons with presentation and exercises. He starts with five positions across the neck for each of main chord quality arpeggios and connecting them. Follows by various aspects of functional harmony as applied to bass etc. Joe has a rather unique curriculum, comparing to other online instructors. Also, he does not offer so much material available at once as others do, but it makes it easier to focus on your work and make visible progress. At the very beginning it may seem a bit slow, but things accelerate rather quickly, so you will be challenged to keep up, unless you practice very seriously.
You do not need to read at all to start with his program, and will probably pick up enough along the way in order to be able and follow it to the end. Still, having some basic reading ability does come in handy.

I'm interested to hear your review. I saw Scott's Bass Lessons just put out a similar 26 week accelerator course. Same format as Joe. One lesson a week. I just prefer Joe's teaching style so I'll be taking his foundation course in the future.

I quit after about 2 months. He uses a really old wordpress format for access to his videos. I constantly had trouble just trying to get to the videos. Nearly impossible on mobile. Also in 2 months there was not 1 lesson that taught anything beyond what could be taught in under 30 minutes as a whole. I just dont appreciate teachers who stretch ultra beginner material out as far as they can to then advertise more lessons when in reality the first 8 lessons could easily be 1 lesson.

And be prepared for 2-3 spam emails from him everyday trying to sell you more stuff.

Good to know, thanks. Stretching is a good point, I have one of his book where he explains 11 exercises on 2 pages text - and then basically repeats them on over 400 pages...
Yeah, I think in the end I know what to practice and can create my own plan - and better pay someone to whip me when I'm too lazy.

I've been doing this course for about a month, and I think it's great. Yes, he's a bit spammy and salesman-ish with the emails, I just ignore the ones I'm not interested in.. But the course is well-organized. Every week you get send links to a new video lesson.

Small increments but it's been quite humbling in a good way. I've been playing and reading with good theoretical knowledge for decades, and in the month I've been doing it, my knowledge of the fingerboard is hugely improved, and I am developing a more practical approach to my right hand muting technique.

And his videos are just a few minutes long, as opposed to Scott who (bless his heart) is so verbose I can't wait for him to get to the point.
