Bass/Guitar Amps

Hey I played through a fender reissue bassman awhile ago and was able to get a great bass tone. I play guitar sometimes so I was thinking are there anyother fender amps that work well for bass and guitar. Say if I were to get a deville or something could I get a good bass sound out of it. i know people like geddy lee, chris squire and jack bruce all played through guitar amps at one point in their career. So i guess the question is what is a good amp that can do both.

(perferbly tube and combo)

I would go with an older Bassman. I do believe you would be nuts to run the chance of ruining the speakers on a Deville. There may not have been a huge difference in speaker tech back in the day, but I can tell you you're not going to get a great bass tone out of a guitar amp. If you're looking to do this with decent volume, go Bassman without question. My guitarist has a lot of high end gear and brings a small Bassman when he doesn't want to haul his Mesa. Guitarist's like them because they're rich, can still produce a warm tube tone, and can still reproduce the high freq they need. Spending money on a great guitar amp and trying to use it for bass is not a good idea, you're better off getting the bass rig you desire and figuring out how to make it sound awesome for your guitar (most will sound great, as they're overbuilt for the job.)

They used guitar amps, but eventually they all switched over to bass cabs to run their guitar heads because guitar cabs just can't take bass that well. And most used them in a blend with bass amps. So whatever you get for a head, if you run bass through it, I'd recommend an actual bass cab, too.

Use bass cabs for bass. Unless you favor a more midrange/trebly sound, and have really beefy guitar cabs.

As for heads, bassmans will work. My amp, a Mesa D-180 is a nice guitar amp as well.

Ampeg V4 and V4B work for both.

Marshall Major, Superbass, etc.

Sunn Model T works for both.

Hiwatt DR103

Various Oranges, Matamps, ElectricAmps,

Lots of old school tube amps in general work well for both.
