Bass Guitar Wall hangers?

I have a 1969 Fender Jazz Bass and an Ibanez fretless bass guitar that are in excellent condition, and I obviously want to keep them that way. I have them hanging on the wall by means of commercial, padded, probably plastic or some kind of composite, V-shaped hangers.
My question is:
Do I have to be concerned with the hangers, over time, becoming brittle and breaking, dropping the basses to the floor? The horror

Hundreds of music stores all over the world have been hanging basses and guitars for ages. Do you think they would have done it if the hangers had any slightest track record of dropping basses/guitars? Obviously the key is choosing good quality hangers.

I've been hanging my basses and guitars in the last 5 years. I have 7 wall hangers installed right now at home and still have a few more for future use. Hercules are the only bass/guitar wall hangers that I use. They are one of the best and they've never failed me.

Just make sure you put the hangers up securely, and you should be fine.

Ohh, and there's a current thread on here asking about hanging them near a/c vents...a definite no-no, so don't do that.
Also, make sure whatever material is touching the bass doesn't damage the finish.
Apparently that's an issue.
As are direct sunlight, frost, airflow, humidity, children, angry wives ... and cats.

Tell you what, rather than worry about all this, just send me them both and I'll take care of them for you.:D

Thanks for answering. Good information. I’m a double bass player, and use a sturdy floor stand for my upright, and I wasn’t sure. I didn’t want to find out the hard way.
My two hangers are marked String Swing. They seem sturdy—blocks of hard wood, which I glued and screwed to the walls, as base platforms, and pinky-finger sized padded V or U shaped prongs which in turn, are screwed into the wood blocks.

I have one string swing and two Hercules. The Hercules is better built and better designed, so I obviously disagree with the poster who declares String Swing the best. The Hercules closes on the guitar neck, holding it a little more securely, has better padding, and is a little more robustly built. I have some strapping wrapped around the neck of the holder and screwed into the stud as an added precaution against dislodging in an earthquake. I went through a major earthquake that destroyed my apartment in the early 90’s, saw Sheetrock pop off of the frame, so that made me decide to be extra safe there, better that it hang onto the wall than get thrown in with all the other debris! That was a hell of a ride, but I digress...

Yes. I have used the String Swing with the metal (not wood) plates for years, screwed into a stud behind the drywall.

The hanging "fork" threads into a 1/4-20 socket in the metal plate and therefore can be oriented at any angle. The fork is also malleable enough to bend-inward to narrow it to suit a Tele headstock nicely. No Problem.

I have entrusted many guitars and basses to String Swing hangers.
Like many have said; I always drill into a stud, or a horizontal board that is secured to a stud.

Some guitars have been hanging for over 12 years without issue.
