Just for giggles and laughs I decided to start a thread on which bass would win in a "fist fight".

The contestants will be:

Fender Jazz

Fender Precision

Ernie Ball Music man Stingray

Ibanez Soundgear models

... and anything else you can think of, sky's the limit :hyper:

Also, be sure to post how and why a certain model would win out against another.

I think it would be the Ibanez soundgear models, beacuse I see it this way.
The soundgears aer just mean looking, no frills, just down and dirty to the point.
The Jazz would be like the workaholic with a family but often get drunk on the weekends and has a good time.
The Stingray would be the really samrt kid that is also an althele, well rounded but is not the best at anything.
The P-bass I see as like a Fireman, a huge burly guy with a heart of gold.
That is how I see, how you agree.

I like the way you think ;)

My opinion:

Ibanez Soundgears are definitely mean looking with no frills. They get the job down but are sort of like the outcasts. They stick to the background and don't get into much competition, just observe in silence. They are just there doing their jobs and doing them well. However if things go rough, they are more than willing to conquer.

The Jazz models are like the versatile guys that are humble enough to do what you ask them to do and can have fun but are quite apprehensive about it.

The Precision models are the jocks of the crowd. Known for their mid-range punch and low-end growl they bully around any one that they view as weak.

The Stingrays are humble like the Jazz but will go down-and-dirty like a Precision if they really have to. But either way they are always get drawn into the thick of it.

So all in all... Soundgear wins. :D Though I am slightly biased since Jeanne Sagan uses nothing but Soundgears herself and I love her as a bassist :hiding:

  • Soundgears are the "pencil - neck geeks". Total nerds.
  • Jazzes - big, beefy, lots of punch. Two-pronged attack. Look out.
  • Precisions - been around the block. Seen every seedy bar there is. Nothing fancy, just prone to kicking in the chest.
    • Ernie Ball - can slap like no one`s business.
Hard to predict a winner here. EB has lots of tricks up it`s sleeve. But Jazz or Precision can roll left and cut you in a second !

My Jazz Bass Special fell off the strap once 20 years ago, both ends at the same time, just when I waved with both arms to someone. It hit the concrete slab, tiled floor, breaking the end of the jack and bouncing around until it came to rest at my feet. I 'bout had a heart attack, and was down on the floor groveling over it and mumbling, almost in tears. Heh, not a ding anywhere to be found, nothing out of whack, not even out of tune. Unbelievable, and I've played ever since. (That strap got a spanking, and I bought strap locks right away).

So there!

EB-O, Thunderbird?

I think a 51 P-bass, slab body, old school headstock, old timer with more than its fair share of battle scars, even more stories. Not a smooth talker, but grasps the fundamentals well, no frills, not cutting edge but a good all-rounder, proven combat veteran, with a vicious right hand hook, would beat them all.

Jazz? Would fight with style, but lack the sheer muscle. Can still slap you silly.

Ibby? Isn't quite sure what it is, so would fight accordingly. Not in a MMA context, either. Bit thin necked. Big voice, but no bulk.

Stingray? Tough, and cutting, but lacks the experience of the P. Not true, though, for the Levin three-string. That's a fighting bass.

Split-coil P would just continue drinking his beer, and eating his meat and potatoes.

Alembic would run away in case his hair got messed up.
Ric would do well, because his opponent wouldn't know where to put his hands.
Zon and Vigier wouldn't be in such a low-life place as to be involved.

Of course, the Squiers would carry the brunt of the assault. They don't give a crap how much of a beating they take, they still deliver a punch.

Wal doesn't get involved. He knows he could take them all on and win, and so has nothing to prove.
