bass head selection help!

Okay.
I have a Goliath III 4X10 cab.
i need a new head, that has AT least 700 watts.

Recommendations please!


i'm looking at a Ashdown head... good choice?
or a Genz Benz, Kustom Groove Bass, something of that nature.
i also like the Ampeg SVT-Pro series, espec. the SVT6Pro.

Are you looking for more volume or more headroom? What amp have you been using, did you have problems clipping trying to get loud enough? Why do you need 700+ watts?

Get a Rack with a good sized power amp and get a channel strip

my goliath cab is RMS 700. i would like to get close to that.
maybe in the 500's?

That's fine, too much power is always better than not enough. Just wondering what problem you're having that says you need more power. A 700 watt cab doesn't NEED 700 watts to work right, it will likely run out of excursion after about 250 anyway, the rest of your power is for headroom so you can get loud enough cleanly and not make your amp work so hard. It's the difference between having a 300 watt head and having to crank it to get what you need or having a 600 watter that'll get you there and have some power in reserve so it doesn't have to work so hard, distort, etc.

i decided i'm going to get a GK 1001RB-II.
its 480+50 watts @8 ohms RMS.
that means its will power it easily.

also looking for an Ampeg SVT Pro series, but thats unlikely.

Any experience with the 1001?
