Double Bass Bass ID help

Can anyone identify or give an opinion on this old bass? The owner sent me these 3 pic and said it’s an old German, solid top instrument. He also said it was “rebuilt” about 15 years ago. There’s no label- that’s all the info I have. Thanks!

It's a flat back. It's got hatpeg tuners.

That's all I've got.

I realize these are the pictures that you've got. Someone will ask for a) a photo of whatever labels are in the inside and b) front and back shots straight on rather than at artistic angles.

It’s a low-dollar fully-carved factory instrument made between the wars. Absent a repairer’s label or handwritten marks identifying a maker probably isn’t going to happen.

That crack by the bass bar and the center seam separation on the back look like bad news.

I'm wondering if rebuilt also means refinished.

Different colored varnish on the neck probably means that is aftermarket, but there's very little wear on the body for a 90 year old bass.

From the ones I've encountered, this era of no-name Germanic basses are often built a little lighter than the ones from the mid 20th century onwards. If the repairs are sound and it's stable, they can be pretty good sounding as a result, though many have issues.

I've seen similar looking basses attributed across a range of a few decades, so I suppose you can't get closer than guessing on the basis of how fresh it looks for that style of bass.
