Bass in a truck bed?

You inferred that people who entrust hauling their livelihood in a truck are just "hold my beer guys". Don't insult people who haul their gear or anything else they depend on in the bed of a truck. The reality is, if you wreck in any vehicle, your stuff is likely to end up all over the road or completely smashed. You're gonna have a lot worse things to deal with than losing some gear.

Had to take my truckto practice last night instead of my VW and on our way out after practice I put my bass in the bed and one of the guitar players saw and he looked at me like a had a second head. He's like "you're really putting that in the bed???"

I never thought there was an issue, the bass is in a decent hard case. But it's got me thinking, is this crazy of me? Anyone else do this?

As long as it's in a case or a good gig bag, then secured, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. Some folks are overly sensitive-- let it be their trip, not yours

Ok so where in Canada are you located because in March it is still cold outside. I myself wouldn't do it.

I'm in NS, we had a nice sunny day here amd we hit like 12 C. And I wasn't going too far, just like a 10 minute drive

Oh god, I couldn't imagine. My vw is a wagon but fortunately my upright fights in the car lol

depends on how good the suspension is, road conditions, weather, as well as how good the case is and its internal padding. I sometimes put my instruments in the bed of my truck along with my amps but I use a very good, well padded Mooradian gig bag and also have a weatherproof tonneau cover on the bed of my truck. However, they usually ride in the back seat unless there is a reason I can't put them there.

We routinely put all of our gear in the bed of our guitarist's pickup. Obviously don't leave it unattended, but otherwise, I don't see a problem.

Don't use hard cases much anymore, so no, not at present. Basses ride in a double Mono M80 bag in passenger seat.

But, yeah, Ive put my basses in hardcase in the back of a truck a lot. Then again, my truck had a camper shell on back.

If you hit something or swerve, it could pop out. At a stop sign someone could grab it. And even in a case, sliding around and slamming around in the bed is not great.

When my wife and I moved to a city about 500 miles away from our previous home, the instruments with hard cases (basses, guitars, synthesizers) did the trip in the back of my pickup truck. They were wrapped in a big tarp and tied down. I think we ran into light snow along the way, but it wasn't a problem. I figure the truck bed isn't much different than the cargo hold of a commercial airliner or the back of a delivery truck assuming there isn't precipitation. I've also toted them around in town the same way, but without the tarp, many times. As long as it's not raining, it's not a problem.
