Bass in car during work day in winter?

I took a bass to work once in a low end job where I was still in training with a bunch of other new people. They made me take it out and play something but that was no problem because there was no amp. I just said I'll do it but you won't like it without an amp you can't even hear anything. They were still insistent, I took the bass out and slapped it good, they saw I wasn't lying and all said oh hmm yeah i guess they do sound much cooler plugged in.
Then back to every day scheduled life no one cared anymore after that.

I keep a bass in my truck 24/7/365
It's poly-finish body and neck (Squier VM). The finish is perfectly fine.
Though my bass sees extreme temperatures of Winter and Summer, they are only the gradual changes of the seasons...I never take it from 20° to 70° within a minute...

The ride on the train might allow it to warm up a bit before you take it out of its case/bag to play...

A year later (now 3.5 years in total) with the same bass in my work truck, and everything is still hunky-dory. Truss rod hasn't needed adjustment in 2 years, frets are all perfect, body and neck poly finish still intact (though the body is a little beat up...whole other set of circumstances.
These days, I can get down to the 20's at night, warming up to mid-40's to 50's during the day. At lunch time, I'd take the bass out of its gig back in the back and stick it up front where I have some mild heat running, and play after eating. Everything is good.

Unless you live in a place with a perpetual polar vortex, 8 hours in a car once a week won't be too bad on the bass as long as it's in a case and put a sleeping bag or blankets over it. It should be fine. It's those inhumanely cold days I'd be worried about but then again, the car probably wouldn't start anyway to get to work.

Only reason I hesitate with that is because it's a corporate open office environment. It would draw too much attention to myself is the main thing I'm worried about.

I totally understand this. I had an office manager (aka overpaid secretary) pop into my office to tell me about my coworkers concerns that my 6 string bass might be concealing firearms. I refrained from asking which one of her relatives skipped their meds that day.
