I don't know if this exists on this forum, but thought it would be a cool idea to start if we didnt already have it. I'm on another forum that is all about softball. And they have a list of all the softball bats by each manufacturer that somebody made. Simple Excel Spreadsheet. Then someone started to add pictures of the bats.

I've been playing bass for about a year now and when I look for new gear I tend to get a little lost when everyone talks about specific models. Having a spreadsheet broken down by Manufacturer, Name of Bass, Years Produced, and a picture of it would be so helpful. Also kinda put them in their correct hierarchy according to "status?". (beginner model up to full customization? Just some thoughts. I know there are a bunch of custom brands but maybe just start with the big manufacturers?

Any interest in trying to do this?

A simple spreadsheet would hardly be practical. It might be feasible on the TB wiki if a structure was in place and everyone chipped in. I have a database of well over 1000 bass brands and builders, and that's still far from being "complete". Add all their models and variants over six decades of electric bass, and you realize it's not going to work without some serious organizing.

Knowing this would take some time and effort, and if everyone pitched in, I think it could be a pretty cool reference. I'm willing to help set it up, but again, the whole reason I'm looking into this is because I don't know much about basses and wanted to learn more.

-doll; seems to me that is a GREAT start.

Agreed that organization would be key and maybe we can discuss it here before we dive too much more into it. I do think the doll has started the framework though. Thoughts?

I used that term very loosely indeed. It's just a personal reference system that has accumulated over the years. Basically, a dedicated drive with a multi-tiered directory system, containing untold amounts of assorted pics, articles and text snippets culled from all over. To everyone else, a mess.

If you build it with serious organizing....wait a minute....Harmony Central has that review thingy goin on already, don't they? http://reviews.harmony-central.com/ Why re-invent the wheel? Someone get HC and TB to hook up some how. Wait a minute that's what I just did...didn't I?........im kewl....lol

HC recently chased off their members by trying to ram a ridiculous interface down everybody's throats. There is someone at HC calling the shots who does not have a clue.

I like the simplicity of a spreadsheet dataset like Doll's sample, but as it grows, it will demand quite a bit of moderation to screen for accuracy, spam, shock posts, nonsense posts, etc.
