Bass Mods Preamps... Anyone use them?

I've used both, and although Audere makes a great pre-amp,the Bassmods are roughly 1/3 the price and every bit as usable. Depending on the application, the Bassmods may even be the better choice..In a nutshell from my experiences with them, the Bassmods will make more of the bass tones you already have and the Audere will give you a more articulate and dynamically sensitive "modern" sound, making your bass a new kind of animal..

I have two of these, one in my VM jazz five with Duncan quarter pounders. In my VM jazz it really fattens up the lows, cleans the mids and crisps the highs. I was so impressed that I ordered a 2nd one to try in a few other basses. I tried it in my Precision/Musicman project, my Les Paul bass and now I'm going to try it in my new OLP stingray.

It won't ever replace my EMG's in my MIA, but for my Squier it's perfect.

I'm think about adding a BEQ12-34AP to my Squier Active Deluxe IV and see that there are quite a few that have done the same. My question is how do I wire the Active/Passive option to the "slap" switch on the Deluxe? I would rather use that than the push/pull volume. Thanks in advance and my wiring skills are lackluster so be kind.

Not sure myself but I love this pre, and wish you best of luck with it!

Thanks seang15! I wanted to try a Bassmods pre on my 77 VM but they didn't make a direct plate replacement at the time. So I went with an Audere and some GFS JB Pro Jazz Bass pickups. It sounds great but it seems to be a bit too much at times. Not sure if that makes sense but could be the pickups are too hot with the Audere.

i got 2 basses tht i'm thinking of adding this.

1 is a G&L L2000 and the other is a MIK 90's squier jazz.

anybody use the preamp for these two basses? Do i have to do anything else to the jazz bass except for soldering as i read that the preamp is quite big

Kind of an old post, but Bassmods offers a version that comes with a pre-wired active/passive switch that directly replaces the stock switch on the Squier Deluxe Actives. BEQ12-34MSAP is their sku.

I put that exact model into my 5-string Squier Deluxe Active Jazz along with a set of Duncan SJB5's and was completely satisfied with the result. I'm not a huge fan of "active sounding" basses. I've set the gain on the preamp to give the same output when active or passive. The sound is such that with the tone controls flat, there's nearly no difference in sound when I flick the switch (it's... well it's kinda almost irrelevant now). At the same time, the tone controls offer huge flexibility in active mode, without changing the character of the bass's tone. I like that a lot.

I am considering one of these pre amps.. I am going to be grabbing a less expensive 6 in a bit and from all accounts most folks change out ther pre in it .. but the same reasoning applies to me gting the pre that applied to the 6.. I don't want to spend a lot but I want to try to get great bang for the $$ and these BM pres look like they could be just what the Dr. ordered..
