Bass Mods Preamps... Anyone use them?

I have 4 of them. 3 with a 2 band and 1 with a 3 band. They work very nice. I actually replaced my Music man 3 band with a 2 band from BassMods. They are only 9 volt, so if you need the extra headroom, its not the one for you.

You can run them 18 volt

I have an Audere installed in a J, and about to finish a J-type fretless with a bassmods preamp jazz plate. I will post reviews/comparisons asap.

Slightly late And certainly abbreviated...but, insofar as Audere vs. Bassmods: Apples and Oranges. Audere "colors" the sound quite a bit, Bassmods is "your bass," only boosted (+15db? I believe?). VERY transparent sounding, is the Bassmods. I know folks look for that kind of preamp for certain applications, and...so here it is. In a very affordable offering.

Anybody know frequency centers? I bought a cheapie 3-band from ebay with 40Hz / 400Hz / 4k, and I can't stand it. 400 Hz is too low in conjunction with a 40Hz bass control.

Assuming you are using round wound strings! For a bass EQ, I like my centers in the 80-100hz / 400-1Khz / 2-4KHz range. If the treble is over 4Khz, I get a lot of hiss with very little noticeable improvement to the tone. Bass below 80hz just adds sub boom and the mids has all it's mojo around the 750-850hz but needs to be tuned for every scenario differently. I like my three band EQs to have variable mids...ideally not a switch but a proper knob. Also the mids needs to have a narrow Q so it doesn't effect the bass and treble response. Nothing more irritating in setting a mids you like and then needing to tweak the bass and treble...then finding the mids needs a further tweak...adfinitum.
Unfortunately, the perfect bass 3 band EQ hasn't been made yet. But on my specs alone, the best circuit is the Noll 3 band. All the others seem to have their frequency centers all over the place.

I am considering one of these pre amps.. I am going to be grabbing a less expensive 6 in a bit and from all accounts most folks change out ther pre in it .. but the same reasoning applies to me gting the pre that applied to the 6.. I don't want to spend a lot but I want to try to get great bang for the $$ and these BM pres look like they could be just what the Dr. ordered..

A while back I wound up putting one of these in a fretles that I bought instead of the 6 but it was a great improvement over the stock preamp in my HBX-406. It is a little noisy though when switching but not enough to be a distraction.. just that you notice it.. Actually my Audere does the same thing whewn I switch between Z modes.. but for the money it is not a bad preamp at all..

Avoid Bass Mods preamp, they are no reliable. Poor control quality and get a lot of RFI.

The newer ones are actually rather nice. I have has 2 in my new Bass Mods bass and they sound great. I replaced one with a Bartolini preamp and didn't notice a difference so I reinstalled the Bass Mods preamp.

This sounds like what should work for my J. I like it’s tone but it’s output is quite low.
