Bass Newb Needs help

hey all i need some advice. Does playing a electric guitar (electric not bass), through a bass amp have any cons like does the sound degrade a lot?

Also as for bass guitar. I'm looking to learn some somewhat challenging songs/riffs something that would get someones attention, and get people nodding there head to the beat. i been playing bass for like 2 months and i got most the basic beginner stuff down like money pink Floyd some led zeppelin and the beatles but im looking for some newer challenging stuff

any help or invice is appreciated. thx

I dont think playing a guitar through a bass amp would have any negative effects, I played my guitar through a behringer BA300(?) practice amp for a long time, loved the sound, really thick. The only problem comes in when you use distortion and the bass amp/cab has a horn or a tweeter, then the sound just gets noisy and just bad.

As for challenging stuff, I'm not really sure what your into but I would suggest some Sublime?(most can at least apprecaite their stuff). I remember learning Santeria at about that time playing bass, that was a good one. Um, Sound System by Operation Ivy or really anything by them is some good stuff, usually not too difficult.

+1 on the rage
Tool is good also, with the exception of schism, playing schism makes other musicians want to hurt you.

playing guitar though a bass amp won't hurt anything.
learn your theory, a few scales and such and of course get a metronome, nothing has helped my groove out more than a 20$ metronome.
Why learn other peoples stuff when you can write your own?
Start writing your own stuff as soon as possible and it think everyone would agree with me there.

thanks guys i'm checking out this stuff on youtube right now your helping out a lot. Mokkat your reply brings me to another question whats the point of learning scales i learned the major scale but i don't really know what the point is for scales. Also with practising what is the best way to get better? learning songs and stuff right? im just curious if im missing something im a newb as you can see but im trying to learn. any advice is good links to sites or anything that could help out. Damn this site is good lots of people replyin most sites i go on are just people haten. thx tho guys

also i use a Yamaha bass and a fender strat out of a Traynor Bass mate 25 watt nothing big but i'm just starting out.

basically scales are so that so and the rest of the musicians can be on the same page so to speak. say that you're playing in a 3-piece, instead of just following along with the chord changes or just playing whatever(which sounds confused msot fo the time, you'll learn you can break this rule sometimes though a little), you can stick with the chord changes but instead of just pounding away at that one note you can play within the scale of that chord(Chord C-play C major, D-D major. ect. ect.)
