Bass octave fuzz

Dear learned low-octave sages. your valuable experience would be of help.
so…. My drummer sent me down a wormhole asking about having a crack at stuff with fuzz (hysteria etc). I’ve never used it before, but I like it. so I’d like to invest, and I saw the review of the mxr sun octave fuzz. So - is it a neat solution and the best if both worlds? Or would I be better (for a similar cost) with a green Russian muff and an mxr octane deluxe. Am unlikely to be able to try them out, so would value any experienced input. For raucous intros, beef during guitar solos and mucking about just bass and drums etc.

I chased octave fuzz sounds for a long time until I got the Source Audio Aftershock that offers several choices that I could then shape to my needs with Neuro. If you don't want to dig in to the tool box there are bunches in the Neuro cloud to sample and load. The [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] is an even more wicked bass octave machine of madness if you dare.

Yes. Hard to find maybe.

Also have a look at Mithrandir by Blackhawk Amplifiers. I have a lot of octave fuzz and also combine an octave and separate fuzz.
Also check out Fuzztration by Wampler. Killer on bass.

Thanks! Will have a look - Now instead of choosing between two options I have eight… Do you see any major difference between the octave fuzz, and combining the two separate pedals? Is one better for you?

I had a Sub Octave Fuzz for a while, and while it’s great, I prefer having separates. Now I use an MXR Vintage Bass Octave (which replaced an OC2) and MXR Bass Distortion…well I used to till I joined a band where they only want clean sounds. Still got them, though…they shall return one day!

I have the MXR Sub Machine (the sparkling purple one), and I really like it. I've also tried the other Sub Octave Fuzz (the yellow snow one), but I found it has too many controls and I didn't really like the core fuzz sound as much as the Sub Machine. Ofcourse, the Sub Machine has no clean blend or more EQ possibilities, but it does have an octave up, just in case you want to throw your guitar player off balance.
