I'll give you the same advice I gave my youngest daughter when she was 20 y.o. She got the chance to go to Belize (central America) for 5 weeks to do work experience.
Do it. Once you have commitments you won't be able to take a month out so do it while you have chance.
+1 to getting your existing bass assessed to see what is wrong with it. Short of a busted truss rod or warped neck there is not much that cannot be fixed. With new strings and a good setup it will feel like a different bass. Best bet is to learn how to do it yourself then it will only cost a few basic tools and a pack of strings. There are loads of threads here and Youtube videos on how to do a setup.

Go travel, especially before it gets more jacked-up.
You state that you have booked travel. That means you'll be out money if you cancel, unlike "I was thinking of booking travel" - go, rather than burning that money to no purpose.
As for the "Proprietary input" (you mean the jack, or the preamp?) here's a handy diagram to bypass the preamp. Jacks are generally quite fungible.

Travel. When I travel, I have better things to do than mess with a bass. If the OP has clinical depression without a bass around, time for some counseling.
Basses can get out of shape, and they get fixed. Travel may only come once, or a very few times.

I find musical inspiration while traveling. From anywhere, maybe someone is busking on the street, just listening to music while walking past a shop.
As well as traveling city-to-city, hotel-to-hotel, I recommend trying a cruise ship at least once. Sure, they're pricey but you can save some money if you select an inside room on a lower floor. Most cruise ships have multiple lounges, playing different genres of music.
Also, I'm married. While I would love to buy multiple basses, I want to stay married and that will require occasional trips where you will both make memories.

Having just returned from a two week trip to France and Germany I would says yours is very good advice.
