Inlay is not an Inlay

I really like my Sterling Pete Wentz Stingray but I just noticed that the Loon inlay at the 12th fret isn’t an inlay at all. They stamped the shape of a Loon on the fretboard with enough force to leave a slight indentation. If you zoom in on the picture you can see the wood grain under the paint. Same for the black dot markers.
