Bass pedal problem

Hey people, first of all I am Florens Twisk. A 16 year old bassist from the Netherlands. I am using a Behringer BDI21 bass pedal. And I have a question about it. When my drive and blend knob are on 0 the pedal still makes an overdrive kind of sound. It is not much but its there. Is it because my battery is dying or should I use a power adapter?

It basically means that the level going into your amp is exactly the same when the pedal is on or off. If you have the pedal volume boosted higher than your clean signal even if the drive is off you might be slightly overdriving your amp.

When you’re troubleshooting noise, it’s always best to go step-by-step. So first plug straight into your amp. Is there any overdrive noise? If so it could be the battery in your bass (if there is one). If there’s not then just plug into your Behringer and nothing else. Is there a noise? If there is try setting the level for unity and making sure the bass, treble, etc. aren’t boosted at all, then try the pedal using a power supply if it’s currently running on a battery, etc. Just methodically go down a list doing one simple part at a time and you should be able to track down the issue.

I have 2 basses one of them has it more than the other. Non of them has a battery. The red light on my bass pedal starts dying after a while. Without my pedal the sound is gone. But with the pedal the sound is back. Even if the pedal isnt on.

Do your basses work if plugged directly into the amp? (If not, the problem is at your bass)

If your pedal's LED light is fading out during operation, you definitely need a new battery or a power supply.

The battery on the pedal should last a really long time as long as you don't leave your bass cable plugged into it when you are not using it. If you have a power supply you can leave the cable plugged in.

Right.
1. Try a new battery.
2. Unity gain - make sure that your pedal is set so that the volume is the same whether the pedal is "on" or "off".
3. If a new battery solves the problem, then:
a. either get new batteries regularly; or
b. get a power supply for the pedal.
4. If a new battery doesn't solve the problem, then - does the pedal make the same amount of noise when it's switched off?

Might be a bad instrument cable or a bad jack on the pedal.

Try each cable by itself, just bass, cable, amp, to test the cables.

Wiggle the jacks a little while the bass is plugged in to test the jacks, but don’t do that until you determine that the cables are both good.
