Its impossible to shoot black, unless youre Nino.

I have tried, to no avail.

It can be done; but you really can't do a great job with ambient light.
All my lights are at work.

I personally like how you use lights to focus details and the way you use diagonals and perspectives.

I`m trying to improve my photographic skills and you`re always an inspiration.

Wow thanks! Yeah, one thing I try hard to do (tho my shooting area really isn't the best for) is to get the light reflection to follow a curve or contour instead of just be a reflection on the surface.

You did a nice job with black. I have such a tough time taking good pictures of my black basses. I'll figure it out someday.

thanks, tho I think that's not at all my best work; i just laid that on the floor and snapped.
the floor being high contrast to the bass helps a lot, but, having a dedicated/separate light to one side or the other to emphasize the side contours helps a lot with black.
In fact, sometimes it's b est to have the edge light hotter than the key light...
