Bass Pickups from the 90's - I can't remember the name

Been trying to remember this for awhile now and can't seem to. I remember from ads in Bass Player Magazine from the early to mid 90's.

I could have sworn the were John 'Something' Pickups. But I can't remember. I only remember they were like $200 a pickup. I could be way off on the name. I just know they were not Bartolini.

Can anyone help? It's been bugging me since I remembered them and can't find anything anywhere.

- I could also be dreaming it all up. But I swear I remember these things.
