Bass player gets whats coming on stage.

I have to be honest.. Amid the chaos, I detected the subtle essence of rock n roll. I almost forgot what it looked like. You arent getting any raw drama like that on American Idol or MTV.

At least they are actually playing/performing. And while its both shocking and sad, I was entertained. Id chose watching these guys over an auto-tuned bozo any day of the week.

Its easy to forget there is no good or bad art, its all in the eyes of the beholder.

You know, I kinda go back and forth on this one.

At first I think - get over yourself and deliver what you were expected to deliver.

On the other hand, setting aside any......er, dependencies he had at the time, I can see how being part of the big effing music biz machine for as long as he has could drive one to that, and I kinda think, good for him.

Hell, I know that just from being in bar bands for years. Should we play "Brown Eyed Girl"? Sometimes I am cool with it, people are dancing and you want to keep the party going. On the other hand, part of me has wanted to say "eff that and eff what these chicks want to dance to, I hate that song! Lets play some Ramones!"

So, I don't know. Just saying' I get it.

Now - I prefer the Paul Westerberg approach, being a bit more sly about it.

So they are on an awards show of some sort, playing a song called Talent Show. There is a line in the song "feelin' good from the pills we took" where he had clearly been warned that it would be censored, and it was - you see him roll his eyes when it happens.

At the end of the song, when they sing the line "It's too late to turn back, here we go", he changes the line to:
"It's too late to take pills, here we go"

The guy at the mute switch was clearly not paying attention, and the line went out over the air, repeatedly.

Take THAT music biz machine!

Of course, we know where this sort of thing got the 'Mats...........nowhere really.

Calling their audience pathetic, when I know there are members here (myself included) who have paid to see them live. How is that not disrespectful?

Let me know if I misinterpreted the post, but it came off not just as a dis toward the band (which is fine, given the video), but to then say the audience is pathetic? That's where it crossed the line into just being an *******.

Of course punk is doomed to failure, but then that's kind of the whole point, isn't it?
Punk is the celebration and glorification of the loser. "Born to lose" is the badge of honor (holla, bikers).
John Lydon of the Sex Pistols summarized the aesthetic neatly in discussing the Pistols:
"The great thing about the Sex Pistols: When the chips were down, we never came through."

Hey, lets at least give credit where credit is due. Kanye is helping to phase out one of the most controversial and longest running trends in fashion history, the notorious saggy pants. I cant say that I like skinny jeans much better though..

That's awesome!

I remember round about 1987/88, Musician Mag, in the same issue, described REM as being the "Little Band that Could" and the Replacements as "The Little Band that Couldn't Give a $hit".
