Double Bass Bass preamp suggestions please

I am a guitarist who has played bass from time to time. Rebought a cheap electric (4) bass, I have a Peavey Nashville 400 (I plan to use the power amp section); probably will build an Eminence 1x15 cab; I thought a good-sounding (but not neccesarily feature-rich) pre-amp to round out this set-up might be a brilliant idea. I don't slap, basic rock tones needed, think Paul Goddard and Berry Oakley
Having not followed bass equipment for years as I have for guitar and such, I would like a couple of suggestions on what is available.
Thanks-
Mike

Agreed probably not what the OP was after but the fdeck can be very handy with the slab when you get stuck with an amp/room that accentuates all that crap below 50hZ. Not something I always use but something I always carry.
Yes, it would be quite good for that if placed in the effects loop. The input impedance of the fdeck is 10 Mohm, quite a bit higher than what a BG expects to "see."

For DB??? Fdeck into tone Hammer maybe?
I was responding to the request for a slab pre, but I was surprised to discover that I love the TH pre for upright as well! Maybe the added gain and eq possibilities, but it seems to add some punch and heft. I do put a fdeck 3 in front of it. I run 50s czech flatback w/guts>full circle>fdeck 3>Tonehammer pre/di>AI Focus 1 Siii>MAS26 or MAS46 (or both).
