I am ready to buy a new bass. My budget is $1300 and under. I am looking for brand suggestions bassed on your experience. I am considering a Fender Jazz MIA, Sadowsky Metro MIJ, G&L, Lakland Skyline Jones or Osborn, Carvin. I perfer the sound of a Jazz bass (I like to S1 switch on fender for a P sound at times). I guess I,m look for recommendations based on playability, quality and sound. What's your experiences?

I personally have lower-end basses, but one factor would be your ability to "try before you buy" vs. buying mail-order. Fenders tend to vary a lot in feel & quality; reportedly more than other other brands.
If you have to buy mail-order, you're probably more interested in consistent quality. If you can try before you buy, you're probably more interested in other aspects. Personally, I'd be cautious with a custom bass like Carvin. While their quality is reportedly high, there are so many choices, it is hard to know what the bass will sound like until you get it.

One bass I would buy again if I had $1300 to blow that I think all players would dig is the USA Jazz deluxe!
Think you'll be hard pressed to find a Sad for less than $1300. Of the other choices, they are all god basses. I agree with the above post that you should play each before you buy. I personally like Lakland, but I don't really think they are any better than a G&L or good American (or MIJ for that matter) Fender in any way that isn't judged subjectively.
I would recommend a marcus miller jazz V to anyone [they sound awsome] or an MIJ 4 string.I bought the Fender Marcus Miller 5 string jazz bass on ebay off someone who had both 4+5 string basses who preferred the marcus 4 string instead of the 5 string .
