bass shopping in Tokyo

If I had the chance to go to Nagano (about 2.5 hr train ride from Tokyo) I'd check out Mr. Hayashi's basses at Atlansia.

Good luck finding a place. I wasn't shopping while I was in Tokyo. I never found a good place in either Hong Kong or Bangkok, but there is a Taylor dealer in Chiang Mai. Good gear is very difficult to find in that part of the world. Also beware of any taxes you might pay taking it out of the country. HK never searched my luggage but they did about half of the time at the Bangkok Airport. I paid several times for ICON Japanese ham radio equipment, usually around $50 each right there in the airport.
It's been a few years since I was there but the Ochanomizu area has many guitar shops and some are high-end/ interesting... I was able to check out an Atlansia, some interesting Tune basses. Lots of Atelier Z's and all the non-export Fenders (Japan).

Bass Collection in Shinjuku. Look for the giant banner with the Ken Smith 7 string on it. You can see it from the train station.

I just came back from Kurosawa Basses in Shibuya. Excellent shop with all kinds of basses; vintage, new high-end stuff, double basses too.
The salesperson that helped me was nice and had lots of knowledge.
Bass Collection was closed today, unfortunately.

Next time, Visit Kurosawa Bass Center in Shin-Okubo!(next to Shinjuku station)
They have hi end basses and wood-basses.
There are used shop on the same street.
Ochanomizu is also good.
There are so many music stores near Ochanomizu station.
So it is easy to compare.
By the way, Ikebe Bass Collection is in Shibuya not Shinjuku.

Has anyone checked out Bass Collection in Shibuya? Would you recommend checking it out or another shop?

Take a train to Ochanamizu. There are 3-4 blocks of music stores. I spent 2 hours going in/out of stores, looking at their inventory. I could have spent the whole day but my wife was with me and she's not interested in music.
My favorite was Bass Planet (a separate building for Guitar Planet's bass department) with a lot of high-end basses.

I also used to enjoy visiting bass planet when passing through Tokyo. I went by about a month ago.. to my disappointment, it wasn't there any longer.
Aww, that's terrible. I was only there February 2018. The change must have happened quickly. Maybe they relocated somewhere?
Yeah, hopefully they just moved but I couldn't find them anywhere nearby. I don't know if they were ever on Google maps before but they aren't on Google maps now.
Not sure where the high end basses went. They weren't in guitar planet's bass section.
Yeah, I can't seem to find them online either.
So would Shibuyu be a good place to check out, or no good quality shops there?
I was hoping to catch the ESP factory tour there today. My son is an ESP guitar fan.
