Gong to be in Philly Saturday (2/27) and might have some time to kill in the afternoon. Google seems to be laying some goose eggs as far as finding a decent bass shop. Can anyone make a recommendation?

That site hasn't been updated for a _long_ time but they're a sponsor of the upcoming Bass Boot Camp so I know they're still around.
They're "appointment only" but carry a nice line of stuff.
Beyond that, you're as much at the mercy of GC as those of us who live here...
If you aren't expecting boutique stuff, George's Music is a small employee-owned chain where you will get good service.

There's a shop on 309 in Montgomeryville - give me a minute to scout that out.
Philadelphia has an actual symphony, you'd think there'd be something downtown - but I don't get there much.
Frankly, Gollihur is my go-to source for DB stuff in this area...

When I lived in Philly I went to Mike Shank, Gage or Arnold. There wasn't any place in town that handled basses.

There is Riccardi's, South Jersey Violin, Viola, Bass, Repair and Restoration He floors quite a few basses. He's primarily bass, but works on cellos and chin instruments as well.

Right! I wasn't sure if the shop was still open after Bob passed. It's a short cab ride from Philly, you might even be able to take NJT there.

Riccardi, Travaline, and Egan are all right over the bridge in Jersey. They're all luthiers and don't keep too many basses on hand so I'd certainly give a ring before making the trek. Honestly, there is nothing in the city. Shank would be the best place, but that's quite a hike.

Ken Smith is a dealer in double basses. Check out the website. He has many beautiful basses for sale.
Perkasie looks to be about an hour from the airport. I would not budget less as you'll probably hit traffic one direction or the other...

If you have no luck with shops, Christian McBride is going to play with his trio on Sat. 2/27 in Philly. Just saying.
