Bass speaker in guitar amp?

Intrigued by this thread. I have been thinking about using a Blackstar HT-112 (Invalid Link Removed) and replacing the speaker. After reading this thread and see what everyone said about the open backs I can't go for that option. I can get the guitar cab cheap hence why I was thinking about upgrading the speaker. The main reason why I wanted to was for the portability. It is incredibly lightweight and easy to carry. Most of the gigs I play have the bass running through the PA and I have a big rig for bigger gigs. Anyways, could I replace the speaker, put a full cover on the back and add new electronics? For a project.

Can't be advised. There's a hell of a lot more to a half decent bass cabinet than sealing the back. If you think about it, too, buying a fully functional cab, throwing away the driver and buying a new one is an expensive way of getting a horrible lashup. Better to get a cab that's right.

If you have rudimentary wood butcher skills and tools a 1x10 cab isn't very hard. My practice setup consists of a 1W Blackstar guitar amp, which has an external jack connection, sitting on top of a 1x10 wedge made from chipboard left over from reflooring the bathroom. Barking heavy for its size, but doesn't matter.

If you're not a wood butcher hunt for a small second hand cab. By the time you've bought driver and fittings cost will be same order either way.
