My GAS has gotten the best of me and I just ordered a second doubleneck... long story short I have ran out of wall space on the free wall I have for guitars and basses. I need to build a case I can store the following. a guitar, 4 regular size basses, a plus size 7 string bass, an acoustic bass, a bc rich warlock(over 45" long), a double neck bass and a double neck guitar. The problem is that there is now real standard size to build it to. the bc rick is awkward in any configuration i can think of.

If it's more for protection and storage, I would suggest a chest of drawers. The instruments lay flat, in individual drawers, padded like their cases. Extra space can be filled with that particular instrument's accessories, tool, and/or strings. Heavy-duty full extension slides would more than be able to handle the load. The mando and Rich might be able to share a space if set diagonally.

Another option would be shelves instead of drawers, and just keep them in their cases.

I chose the first route, but then again, I tend to go a little overboard when I'm "in the zone."

Edit: You should have seen the workbenches and tool chest I built. :)

How do you mean? Good full-extension, side mount metal drawer slides can handle 100+ lbs. If you mean tipping, I added a ballast box at the bottom that was removable, and used a child safety/earthquake support tie in the back.

If, on the other hand, you mean getting everything to fit, the only advice I can offer is get creative. Pinterest, Instructables, look at tool, rather than instrument, storage for ideas.

I can't really answer either of those questions. I built mine damn near 12 years ago, now. I used to be a cabinetmaker, and can build completely with hand tools, so what may be easy for me, may not be for others. I also bought rough lumber, and dressed and resawed it myself whenever possible.

That picture isn't mine, BTW. I just found it on Google. I would love to have posted mine, but we lost everything- and I mean everything- one night. I haven't been able to bring myself to build much since.

To get back on topic: You could build one out of plywood using only a router, straight edge, and pocket screws, if you wanted to. It all depends on what you have to work with: In skill, tools, and money.

Im thinking of building a simple one with 8 drawers or so that can fit up to 16 basses that would be on casters to move around. should be heavy enough that i dont need to anchor it. buy some cheap foam to make bassic guitar cutouts in and i shoukd solve my problem

i should build one for both of my full stacks while im at it
