Bass String Hitting Pickup

Hi guys,
Im just getting back into bass playing after about 5 years away and decided to get myself a new bass, a Jackson X Spectra 5 string.

Everything about the bass is great except on the b string if I play the E the B string will push back all the way down to the pickup and make this horrible clack sound. The rest of the strings dont have this issue.

What would be a fix for this?

A couple of possibilities:

1) Adjust your plucking technique. Try to pluck more upwards instead of towards the bass by bending your fingers more.

2) Lower the pickups by tightening the screws that hold them in place. You will have to adjust both pickups to prevent one from being louder. This will affect the sound of your bass though.

3) Raise the action on the B string by adjusting the saddle height.

If you’re not comfortable with the idea of adjusting the setup, have a professional do it. It’s common for a new bass to require some adjustments.

If the strings EVER contact the pickup, the pickup is too high.
