Ernie Ball MusicMan Stringray Special HH, the one with the 18V preamp.
It can sound like a Stingray or a P bass or a combo of the two. And the neck is to die for, if you like medium heft P and J bass necks.
I can dial in so many tones on a gig with this. Pretty light as well. Love it.

FGN, FujiGen's in-house brand. For your budget, G&L, Spector, Fender, and even EBMM will have necks that won't be anywhere as nice as a FujiGen.
I play mainly clasdic rock and some contemporary rock mixed in. This "budget" bass is slowly becoming my #1. Build quality/craftsmanship, playability and neck feel are excellent! And those stock pups roar! Woth looming into, for sure. G&L JB-2 Tribute. Plays/sounds like a bass costing at least twice the price.
If you're very comfortable with the feel of your jazz bass (I can't tell from your post), try a fretless jazz bass. It being the same model, you will have very little trouble adapting to the fretless fingerboard, and you will have a LOT of new sound to work with.

I've been in Montreal in December (...short jaunt from Massena NY / Cornwall ON). Wasn't the brightest move.
I took this into consideration: The Premium & Prestige models have KTS / titanium stabilizing bars imbedded in the neck. They're super-stable even with the climate changes.

Used music man or if you must go Fender then MIJ/CIJ and get to know the quality that you can hear, see and feel!
Ooh, good call, @SpazzTheBassist ! The Peavey Cirrus probably checks all of the OP's boxes.
Second on the Stingray and Tony Franklin, both would compliment the passive Jazz nicely.
Agree with the nod to the Reverends. Haven't sampled one for myself yet, but their specs generally include a comfortably wide neck, reasonable weight, and healthy pickup layouts. Aside from a couple of colors that aren't quite my cup of tea, just about every one of their long scale models look like serious players.
