Bass to trigger backing tracks

Hi all,

Simple question.. I think...!

I have a bass with 13-pin midi and a patch toggle switch.
Is it possible to 'activate' backing tracks/parts with the switch?
I wanted to use an old iPad to host an app that would contain the music, which could be toggled on/off etc from on the body.
If there is a pedal that would be better as the music storage, what would that be?

What items would I need to make that happen?
Is there a good app that would respond to midi data in that way (with the right bits of kit?)

Better to do that with MIDI foot switches—hands free, and offers more than 2 program numbers.

Yes you could do it but you would need to buy a GR55 or a VB99 (no longer made) and program a CC to that S1/S2 switch. ($$)

And for your track , you have a playback function on the GR55 wich can host an USB stick , you could trig it from there.

as for the iPad , you need a MIDI input for the iPad and you need a Sampler on the iPad.

There are small foot samplers that would be a lot easier and cheaper for what you want to achieve what you want.

BTW , the 13 pin system you have is not MIDI.

Yes, I'm aware 13-pin is not midi! I regularly use a VB99 & also have a GI-20 for if I need to output to midi for separate situations.

Well just program a CC to the S1/S2 switch , use the MIDI out to a MIDI input for your iPad.
Or the USB out of the VB99 to a computer….


To program the CC on the VB99: (sorry if you already know this)
-System/MIDI/Page 7/GK S1-S2 / assign to whatever


BTW , I got an Alesis iPad dock , very useful for that type of thing.
Not sure if compatible with 1st gen iPad though…
