Bass tone/ Hardware suggestions

I am having trouble finding gear that would provide a certain tone. or at least some hardware that would provide various tones and effects preferably allow transition from smooth/warm bass to heavy/ distorted bass.Its hard for me to describe exactly what im looking for if anybody knows bands like don the reader or the ghost inside those tones are similar to what im looking for. I play progressive/ metal music and am open to suggestions or advice.

I'm really wanting to check out the new deluxe big muff specifically to do this. Haven't seen one on a store yet so I can't give an opinion.
