I have the Tascam GTR1, it works great. This is also a great quality recorder which accepts line input, just run a cable from the headphones/out from the cassette player into the GTR1 and record it. I have done that on some pieces.
I have the Tascam MP-BT1, and I absolutely LOVE it! It truly is amazing bass training tool. You can slow down tunes (tempo) while keeping the pitch, cut or boost the bass so that you can learn, or groove along without the original bass interfering with your line. It has a tuner, and effects as well. The fidelity is not superb, but as a training tool it is perfect.
One major issue is the power button (on/off); the reviews are correct. It is unbelievably bad, and while I baby that piece to the best of my abilities, I know it is going to break some day soon. It is like showing up to the pearly gates only to find somebody broke the key off in the lock....

I have a Tascam DR-07, which is a portable stereo field recorder. It works great for me. It has the ability to change pitch, change tempo, and loop sections. All those features work great. Of course, if you change pitch too far from the original, the vocals might sound like the Chipmunks, or Darth Vader, depending on which way you are changing the pitch. But I use the pitch change all the time when learning new songs. Also, the tempo change and section looping are great features when learning new songs. They are really easy to use on the DR-07. Best of all, you can pitch change AND/OR change tempo AND/OR loop sections in any combination you want. You have total control.
In addition to the built in stereo mics, the Tascam DR-07 also has a line input for recording. So you could jack your cassette headphone/RCA outputs to the line input on the DR-07 and record your cassettes that way. All you would need is the proper patch cable for your setup and it should work fine.
I bought my Tascam DR-07 for recording live bands at the local venues. It is about the best portable field recorder out there for that purpose. But I find that I now also use it as my trainer at home all the time. It's a great little recorder.
Having said that, I am looking at getting the Tascam bass trainer specifically for the bass cancellation feature it offers. But I don't know how well that feature actually works, or not. I posted a question about it on http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=693387 so if anyone can help me on that, I'd appreciate you taking a look at my question too. Thanks in advance.
